How our turkeys are raised
Our turkeys roam a fresh patch of pasture measuring just over 1,600 sq.ft. which is enclosed by portable electric net fencing. We keep them in a low stocking density allowing them space to roam and develop natural social structures (which is key to stress reduction). Every few days we move the fencing and a portable shade shelter to a new patch of fresh pasture. Our turkeys also receive a supplemental certified organic feed. These turkeys are excellent grazers and hunters, mowing down everything in their path. Living outside enables them to forage for grasses and voraciously hunt for insects and worms.
We don’t use medications or antibiotics and we don’t trim their beaks, a common and inhumane industrial practice.
How does pasture-raised turkey taste?
Our turkeys are the same breed you’d find in the store, except ours live outside on fresh pastures where they receive a more natural diet, sunlight, and fresh air. These key differences (as compared to industrial-raised turkeys) result in a superior dining experience.
We have been roasting turkeys from our small test batch this spring, and although this feels strange to say about our own food, they are absolutely delicious. Our family can't get enough. The meat is intensely flavorful, tender, and juicy. The gravy elevates stuffing to a whole new level, something Kate and I personally didn't think was possible. They promise to be the centerpiece of your Thanksgiving dinner and to get the whole family talking about something we can all agree on - good food, grown regeneratively.
